A Meditation on Love

This started out as two short poems. The first was inspired by the idea that before we can attract love, we must create space for love in ourselves. A belief I've been cultivating with my thoughts.

The second was inspired by an image I'd seen on Tumblr. It was a photograph of hunky shirtless man, but instead of focusing the lens on the man’s physical beauty, the photographer had chosen instead to concentrate on the spiritual aspect.

The subject was in profile, palms touching each other as in prayer, while his eyes gazed forward in mediation. There was a gentleness and a peace surrounding him... it was one of the most beautiful things I'd seen.

PART I
I repeat your name like a sacred mantra
An invocation to the Soul
Incense burns my senses
Candlelights the circle way
An alter to the Word
A pathway to the Gods

Slowly I feel your essence unfolding
I taste the sweetness, hear the rain
Chakras open from root to head
Light flows through me, attracting, pulling, manifesting
L-O-V-E

PART II
Silent
Mesmerizing
His palms arched together in prayer
Naked power inked in muscle
Like tattoos breathing
Divinity in human form
Beautiful

My vision shifts
The spirit realm reveals
Wading through histories of ancient shadows

Serenity
Appreciation
The ability to love and be loved…
not in some future imaginary date
But right here and…
Now
